The LODGE

The central building at El Pedregal is the Lodge. It houses the kitchen, bar, living and dining areas, library and office. Our goal in creating this space was to make our guests feel at home. The front portal faces the shady north and is a gathering place for visitors throughout the day. The back portal provides our guests with views of Mt. Alamos. Breakfast is served in the lodge or the nearby palapa. Coffee, tea and cold drinks are available anytime.

The CASITAS

Connected to the Lodge by rock-lined trails are the five Casitas. These free standing, small buildings are our guest accommodations. Each Casita is made up of a bedroom, bathroom, seating area and outdoor portal area. The Casitas offer a unique and peaceful accommodations option for visitors to Alamos. For more information on the rooms, please go to The Casitas.

The STRAWBALE

The first building at El Pedregal, built by the former owner Elizabeth Nuzum, was the strawbale and it set the standard of excellence and artistry for future buildings. This magnificent structure has thick straw bale walls, plastered and whitewashed, and a thatched palm roof with wood beams and smaller carrizo (bamboo) cross beams. The floor is a smooth, colored concrete floor with radiant heat. The main room is approximately 700 sq. ft. and is a grand space. It is equipped with subtle lighting, a state of the art sound system, a high-quality projector. We use it for yoga classes, movie nights, dances, parties and meetings. Off the main room, there is a relaxing massage room. There is also a beautiful bathroom.

The PALAPA

This grand outdoor structure was also built by Elizabeth Nuzum and her crew. A stone floor and low circular wall support wood posts and an immense thatched palm roof. Furnished with ‘guasima’ furniture and rustic tables and chairs, the palapa is the perfect place for enjoying the outdoors from the comfort of the sitting area. To one side of the palapa is our outdoor kitchen complete with barbeque and wood-fired oven. Sitting in the palapa with a good book or binoculars to watch the bird feeders is a Pedregal pastime.

The TRAILS

El Pedregal is set on twenty acres which can be explored on our small trail system. Some of the trails were existing trails that locals have used for years to traverse the land. Other we cleared in order to access parts of that land that we had not discovered because the vegetation was too thick. In all, if you walk all the trails, there are about two miles of trail distance, looping around and weaving through the landscape. Along the way there are spots to sit and enjoy the view, including The Rock at the top corner of the land. Click here for a map of El Pedregal and its trails.

The GARDEN

We are fortunate to have a bountiful organic garden that provides us with herbs and vegetables most of the year. The garden is David’s passion and thanks to his efforts, we are able to use a variety of fresh vegetables in our meals at El Pedregal.

The POOL

The most beautiful pool in Alamos! The water is treated with a salt filtration system which makes for great swimming and enjoyment. Our pool is the centerpiece of El Pedregal, situated by the palapa, the big tree and the strawbale. It measures 14′ x 40 ‘ and it is 3′ in the shallow end and 6′ in the deep end. So, it’s great for laps or just for floating around, cooling off and enjoying the beauty of the surroundings. Poolside we have comfortable lounge chairs with organic cotton towels and plenty of umbrellas for shade.
