POCHOTE

The original King room at El Pedregal

The Pochote (Ceiba acuminata), or Kapok, has bark that is usually covered with conical spines. It produces a large pod containing fluffy, cotton-like seeds. Birds use the fiber to line their nests, and artisans use it for pillow stuffing and other crafts. The branches are used in the creation of living fences.
